Recommended Life-Saving Equipment to Keep in Your Car

June 10, 2025

1. Jumper Cables

Basic Steps for Jump-Starting a Battery:

– Connect the red cable to the positive terminal of the working car’s battery and the positive terminal of the dead battery.

– Connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the working car’s battery and to the chassis (ground) of the car with the dead battery.

– Start the car with the good battery and rev the engine slightly.

– Try to start the car with the dead battery while keeping the engine running to ensure it does not stall.

– Disconnect the red and black cables in the reverse order

2. Traffic Cones or Reflective Warning Signs

“Warning signs” are one of the safety devices that can help prevent accidents to some extent when your vehicle is broken down on the roadside. These signs come with reflective strips, making them visible to passing drivers who can then change lanes in time. This is especially useful at night, as lacking warning signs or signals may cause secondary accidents. Using traffic cones, reflective warning signs, or signal boards helps other drivers safely change lanes and pass by your vehicle.
For emergencies on the expressway such as breakdowns or accidents, you can call the Expressway Control Center at 1543, available 24 hours a day.

3. Dash Cam

Nowadays, a dash cam is an essential device to have in your car. It is the most “neutral” equipment in case of accidents. The recorded video clips serve as important evidence that can be used for reporting incidents to authorities.

4. Spare Tire with Jack

Steps to Change a Spare Tire:

– Place the jack under the vehicle in the correct position and turn the jack handle to lift the wheel off the ground.

– Use a wrench to loosen all the lug nuts by turning counterclockwise. To reinstall, turn clockwise.

– Do not remove the lug nuts completely yet; continue to lift the wheel slightly off the ground with the jack.

– Remove all the lug nuts, take off the old tire, and replace it with the spare tire. Hand-tighten the lug nuts.

– Lower the jack until the wheel touches the ground, then remove the jack from under the vehicle. Use the wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts securely.

5. Mobile Phone Charger and Power Bank

A mobile phone is one of the most essential devices in daily life, especially in cases of vehicle breakdowns or accidents, as it allows you to quickly contact various support services such as your company, mechanics, police officers, and insurance providers. Therefore, you should always keep your phone ready for use by regularly checking the battery status, carrying a phone charger in your car, and bringing a power bank when traveling long distances or when using your phone extensively throughout the day to avoid running out of battery while on the road.

6. Important Vehicle Documents

A copy of the insurance policy should be kept in the car.

– Owner’s manual: When the car breaks down or during an emergency when you cannot call for help, you can refer to the owner’s manual for solutions. It is recommended to highlight important sections in advance.

– Vehicle registration book: It is better to keep a copy in the car rather than the original to prevent loss or theft in case of unexpected incidents.

– Driver’s license: Should always be carried with you.
